Description

Cullen Grummitt & Roe was commissioned to carry out detailed design, site supervision and project management for conversion of general cargo wharves into a modern container terminal. As part of the redevelopment of Piers 1, 2 and 3 CGR carried out detailed design, site supervision and project management for electrical services.

CGR was involved in the project through the eight stages of construction. One of the requirements was for the port to remain operational throughout the construction period. CGR achieved this by co-ordinating the execution of civil and electrical works with the operations of the terminal.

The electrical works for the project involved the construction of:

  • A principal substation, including transformer rooms
  • Secondary substations, including transformer rooms
  • An interconnection substation at Pier 3
  • Medium voltage power to the three piers for gantry cranes
  • 40 meter high light towers on the three piers
  • Power supply for 900 plugs for reefers
  • Power supply for new buildings, including workshops, storage and for miscellaneous consumption

CGR co-ordinated and managed all electrical works and liaised with the client`s staff and the electrical contractor.
