Description

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), located on the West coast of Maharashtra state in India, plans to expand its facilities to capitalise on the escalating business in container handling. In view of this expansion, bids were invited by JNPT for development of a new container terminal involving a 330m container quay, reclamation of a 27 ha area for container stacking yards, electrical services and utility buildings. The project is the extension of an existing container handling facility and is expected to have an estimated capacity of 0.8 million TEU.

Cullen Grummitt & Roe has been involved in development and construction of container terminals for JNPT for over a decade. CGR prepared the detailed design for construction of two terminals operating inside JNPT and also undertook project management, technical support and/or site supervision works at these sites. These two terminals account for more than 30 percent of the container trade in India.

CGR was commissioned by DP World to assist with the preparation of a tender bid for the construction of a new 330m container quay and associated container yards. Following the bid's submission on 4 October 2012, it was revealed that our client was the sole bidder for the works.

CGR's bid assistance services included:

  • review of data made available by the port trust
  • identification of data gaps
  • preparation of layout plans to suit the layout of existing terminal being operated by our client
  • basic design of wharf facilities
  • concept design of reclamation and container yard
  • estimate of capital cost for construction and maintenance of the complete development
