Description

Mundra Port is located in the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat State, Western India (near India’s southern border with Pakistan).  The port is owned and operated by Gujarat Adani Port Limited (GAPL).  In 2000, GAPL decided to expand the port facilities by developing an international class container terminal capable of handling super post panamax container vessels.  The project involved the development of 1100m of quay; dredging of an approach channel, turning basin and berth; reclamation of approximately 56 hectares of land using hydraulic fill methods from the dredging works; creation of a significant rail transfer facility; construction of 40 ha of container storage yard as well as buildings and services.

Cullen Grummitt & Roe was initially commissioned by GAPL to undertake the concept design of the terminal, including the quay, container and rail transfer facility, buildings, container freight station and all associated services. CGR was subsequently commissioned to undertake the detailed design of the pavements, soil improvements and all associated services. CGR was also appointed as proof engineers for all remaining design aspects including the quay.

In addition to the concept design, detailed design, and proof checking, CGR provided a full-time resident project manager to work in conjunction with the client’s project management team.
