Description
Following the completion of the container berths for the Port of Mundra, Gujarat Adani Port Limited (GAPL) began the process of extending the facility to include a multipurpose berth primarily for bulk commodities and container trade. Cullen Grummitt & Roe initially provided assistance to GAPL in the planning and development of tender documents for the project. The project was then tendered on a Design and Construct basis and CGR teamed with local contractor Simplex Piles Ltd.
Cullen Grummitt & Roe provided design services for the project that included the development of 600m of quay, dredging of the berth, soil improvement and pavements of 3 hectares of land. The design included seismic analysis of both the quay structure and the reclamation, which was found to be susceptible to liquefaction. A significant component of the design included the analysis of the interaction of the proposed extension with the existing quay structure in a seismic event.
Following submission of the Design and Construct tenders, GAPL decided to defer the project and instead develop the Terminal 2 project on the seaward side of the existing container terminal.
