Description
CGR provided sub-consultancy services to Drewry Shipping Consultants for work on this container terminal project in French speaking West Africa. CGR’s role in this project was to provide an independent review and validation of the work prepared by another consultant on the terminal’s infrastructure development options and requirements.
The scope of works required of CGR included consideration of the terminal’s overall handling capacity, both under current operating conditions and considering the potential for redevelopment of the site. The terminal’s capacity was assessed based on consideration of the quay capacity and the yard capacity. Consideration was also given to the significant external road traffic constraints associated with handling additional cargo at this stage. An assessment of the likely costs associated with upgrading the terminal to achieve increased capacity was also required.
Following meetings in London, CGR was invited by the Ministry of Infrastructure to visit the terminal and to meet with the port authority to discuss the potential development alternatives in order to provide a more complete review of the terminal’s infrastructure development needs.
During the visit, CGR also inspected potential sites for the development of new wharf and yard facilities at the port.
