Description

Acting as a sub consultant to Civil & Marine Consultants Limited, Mowlem Marine’s engineering consultant for this contract, CGR provided specialist detailed design support services for elements of this project. The ultimate client was the Scrabster Harbour Trust.

The services provided by CGR included the design of formwork for the construction of a concrete skirt around the roundhead on the end of Scrabster Pier. This skirt of concrete extended down to +0.85 OD.  With MHWS at + 2.3m OD, the skirt was well within the tidal zone which was anticipated to cause construction and casting difficulties.  The site was very exposed to wind and waves which further complicated the formwork design and proposed construction methods.

The solution was ultimately provided, which meant the downstand wall was constructed inside the protection of the king pile wall. CGR was responsible for the detailing of this revised alternative and for scheduling of the reinforcement required for this element of the revised design.
