Description

Brisbane Marine Industry Park engaged Cullen Grummitt & Roe to design a barge load out facility. The facility has a primary use for the loading of barges with components being manufactured in the BMIP precinct for a new alumina refinery at Gladstone on the Central Queensland coast. Units with a mass of up to 500T are being barged from the roll on – roll off facility.

Cullen Grummitt and Roe was commissioned to design, document and supervise the construction of two berthing dolphins and a sheet pile wall.  The facility allows for the berthing of 90m barges perpendicular to the tidal flow of the river. A dredge basin was also designed in consultation with the client and barging contractor. CGR also provided technical advise in liasing with the barging contractor and assisted the client in gaining statutory approvals for the structure and dredging.

The facility was completed in November 2002.
